The National Policy on Education (NPE) and the Programme of Action (POA), 1986 inter alia recommended that– ‘Excellence of Institutions of Higher Education is a function of many aspects: Self-evaluation and self-improvement are important. If a mechanism is set up which will encourage self-assessment in institutions and assessment and accreditation by a council................ . The quality process, participation achievement etc. will be constantly monitored and improved.’

In pursuance of the above University Grants Commission (UGC) u/s 12 ccc of the UGC Act, 1956(3) established the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of 16th September, 1994 at Bangaluru (Bangalore). This concerns among academics for ensuring quality in higher education has been a source of strength and inspiration for NAAC.

Therefore, it is imperative that HEIs must have their own internal mechanism for Sustenance, Assurance and Enhancement of quality culture of education imparted by them.

In pursuance of the above and also notified by the affiliating authority (UGC and University), an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of B. P. Chaliha College, Nagarbera has been formed in the year 2002.

There is a core committee of IQAC. For any assessment and subsequent accreditation is made with reference to a set of parameters, so that the standard of an institution can be compared with that of other similar institutions. Under the umbrella of IQAC, the following Committees, Sub Committees, Cells are formed for the smooth functioning of the institutional quality mechanism.

1. Criteria wise Sub Committee :

1.1.Curricular Aspects Sub Committee : This sub committee deals with information as how the curriculum design of the institution offers diversity and flexibility to the learners.

1.2.Teaching, Learning & Evaluation Sub Committee : This sub committee deals with the efforts of the institution in providing appropriate teaching, learning, experiences to learners as well as the efficiency of the methodology of evaluation.

1.3. Research Consultancy & Extension Sub Committee : This sub committee deals with the activities of the institution with reference to research, consultancy and extension.

1.4 Infrastructure & Learning Resource Sub Committee : This sub committee deals with the adequacy and optional use of the facilities available in the institution.

1.5. Student Support & Progression Sub Committee :This sub committee deals with the effort of the institution to provide assistance for good students and to facilitate the progression, alumni profiles etc.

1.6. Governance & Leadership Sub Committee : This sub committee deals with the policies and practices of the institution in the matter of planning, human power requirement, training, performance, appraisal and financial management.

1.7 Innovative Practices Sub Committee : This sub committee deals with the innovative and unique practices of the institution that adds to its academic ambience.

2.Planning Board : The Planning Board assesses the overall requirement of the college and prepares plans and estimates as per fund available/earmarked in the budget.

3.Library Advisory Board :This sub committee deals with the proper management and the overall development of the College Library.

4.Examination Board : This board controls and conducts all internal examination of the college.

5.Inter-departmental Consortium : The Inter-departmental Consortium of the College ensures the optimum use and quality enforcement of academic as well as infrastructural aspects of the College.

6. Research Committee : This Committee acts as a competent body to work for enhancement of the research culture among teachers and students.

7. Grievance Redressal Cell : The Grievance Redressal Cell deals with various grievances of the students as well as staff.

8. Media Cell : The Information & Public Relation Cell (Media Cell) plays a proactive role to interact with the media for various advertising & publicity drive. It also enforces stringent measures for unsolicited news items about the College to any other authority by any quarter.

9.Alumni Association The members of Alumni Association are actively associated with the overall development of the College.

10.Students & Teachers Recreation Centre : Co-curricular and Extra Curricular activities are an itegral part of education. The College is very much concious about the matter and provides the facilities and encourges and guides the Students Union through the ‘Students & Teachers Recreation Centr in various Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

11. Extension Education Centre : The UGC has recognized Extension as third dimension in the higher educational institution along with the earlier two fold dimensions of Teaching and Research. Education through Informal and Non-formal Programmes are the main area of action of extension education.

The programme of Extension Education can broadly be conceived into four categories :

1.Awareness and development of general interest in contemporary affairs.

2.Imparting and improving professional skills through special training.

3.Imparting functional literacy and numeracy , post literacy and supplimentary education through non formal programmes.

4.Developing curriculum for field work and action.

The main purpose of extension education is to promote a meaningful and sustained rapport between the College/University and the community . In pursuance of the above, an ‘Extension Education Centre’ has been established in 2002 in our College.

To Achieve the object under this umbrella, our College has a few associations namely–

11.1. Career Guidance & Counselling Center Established in the year 1995, the Centre provides information, guidance and imparts training, conducts seminars etc. to develop the professional career of the students.

11.2 Health Care Centre : This centre takes initiative to provide all sort of health and medical aid for studets and staff during the working hour of college.

11.3. Science Forum : The Science Forum organizes programmes among the students and local community to popularise science, social awareness etc.

11.4.Women Empowerment Cell : The Women Empowerment Cell established in the year 2002, has concentrated its activities towards community mobilization and development of women.

11.5.Sahitya Kanan : A literary organization known as ‘Sahitya Kanan’ was established in 1995 and it regularly organizes Seminar , Popular Talk, Competitions etc. on various literary, socio-cultural and linguistic issues.

11.6.National Service Scheme : Established in 1977, NSS unit of the college provides opportunities for students to render social service both inside and outside the College campus.

11.7Scout & Guide : The college has a unit of scout and guide to train the interested students of the college by developing their whole personality to make them leaders in various fields in future life.

11.8 Sprots Club : The sports club looks after the infrastrctural facilites for games and sports. The club regularly arranges training, workshop etc among the interested students for the development of various sports.

11.9 Eco Club : This club works to create a sustainable eco-friendly environment inside the college campus.The club looks after the conservation of nature and waste management.

11.10 Debate Club : The Debate club conducts regularly training programmes, competitions etc. to prepare the students for debate and symposium.

11.11 Literary Club : The Literary club conducts various literary programmes, competitions and workshops etc for the interested students for the upliftment of language and literature through out the year.

11.12Music Club :The Music club provides facilites for Musical programmes/competetions in the campus. It regularly arranges training, workshop and competetion etc. among the interested students.

11.13 Placement Cell : The Placement Cell of the College arranges campus interviews and strives for students placement.
