UG : BA ( Honours & Regular). •Number of seats : BA (Honours) - 50. •Selection and Admission procedure : 1.The selection procedure is completed the basis of merit as per choice indicated in the admission form and subject to availabitily. 2.The department organises an entrance test for the students separately. 3.The whole process of the admission is handled by the college administration with the help of the respective departments. •Facilities : 1.Number of classroom : 1 2.The department established a cultural museum in the year 2004; in which some essential elements are preserved, related to Assamese society and culture. 3.WiFi and Computer facilities are available in the department. 4.In addition to regular classes, faculties teach students about co-curricular activities such as creative writing, critical writing, proof reading, DTP, singing, dancing, playing ect. • Departmental library : There is a departmental library with a few racks. There are almost 2500 books of literature, language and others in the library. Only honours students can issue books from the departmental library. • Teaching methods : 1.Lecture method, 2.Group discussion, 3.Library activities, 4.Class seminar, 5.Field study method, 6.Audio-visual method and ICT are used as needed, 7.Special classes and care are offers to slow learners.

The Department of Assamese at B.P. Chaliha College, Nagarbera, is committed to promoting the study and appreciation of Assamese language, literature, and culture through quality teaching and academic engagement. The department offers B.A. Major and Minor courses in Assamese, designed to develop students’ critical understanding of literary traditions, language, culture, and research aptitude. In addition, the department provides a Certificate Course in Assamese DTP and Proof Reading to equip students with practical skills related to Assamese typing, desktop publishing, editing, and proofreading, thereby enhancing their employability and professional competence. The department regularly organizes academic activities such as seminars, lectures, educational visits, outreach programmes, and literary events to ensure the holistic development of students. Through a blend of academic excellence and skill-based learning, the department strives to nurture competent, creative, and socially responsible learners.
