Bimala Prasad Chaliha college, Nagarbera is one of the premier institutions of South Kamrup of Assam was established on 26th August 1972 with the aim of imparting knowledge and academic standards of education among the students of the locality. The college is affiliated to the Gauhati University. Sociology as a subject introduced in the year of 2018. Then this department provides sociology as a subject in H.S level under Assam Higher secondary education Council along with a good number of students and the B A (Bachelor of Arts) general course introduced in under graduate level which is affiliated by Gauhati University. Since it’s inception the Department has been rendering service in catering to the need of studying history among the students of lower Assam and beyond. It has a vibrant culture of organizing field trips, seminars workshops and talks etc. The facilities available in the department there are one class room and one staff room for teachers. At present there are two teachers are servicing in the department of sociology.
